Martin Daneš: Česká Lípa, Paris and Poláček

Born in Česká Lípa in 1962, Martin Daneš left Czechoslovakia for France in the mid-1980s. He studied journalism and international relations in Paris. After returning to Czechoslovakia, he has worked as the editor-in-chief of the Denní Telegraf daily, as well as the Mezinárodní politika and Hustler magazines. He writes in Czech and French, translates from Czech to French (e.g. works by Karel Poláček and Karel Čapek) and from French into Czech. He returned to France in 2008. He has published over ten books, his most recent being Rozsypaná slova (Spilled Words, 2020) which deals with the life and work of Karel Poláček between 1939 and 1945.
